Sevilla coach Jorge Sampaoli has turned down the opportunity to become the new Argentina coach.

Sampaoli only took over at Sevilla last month following Unai Emery’s departure to manage PSG.

“I had a call from the president of the (Argentine football) federation, but it would be irresponsible for me to leave Sevilla,” he said.

The Argentina-born Sampaoli was in charge of Chile from 2012 to 2016 and guided them to the 2015 Copa America title on home soil
Argentina coach Gerardo Martino resigned after losing a second consecutive Copa America final on penalties to Chile, and the national federation have been seeking a replacement ever since.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has already revealed that himself and Diego Simeone have a desire to manage Argentina one day, but that the time is not right at the moment.
