The 9th season of the MTN project fame west Africa kicked off on the 23rd of July with an opening gala night to determine which of the shortlisted contestants will make it to the project fame academy. The journey to project fame 9.0 kicked off weeks before with auditions taking place in various locations in selected west African countries to search for the next best music star in Africa.
The opening gala started with so much suspense in the air as to which of the shortlisted 18 contestants will make it into the Academy. The night saw an performance by Jeff, the winner of the 8th season of project fame west Africa. He performed his debut single ‘Never let you go’ to the delight of the audience. After Jeff’s performance, it was time to announce which of the contestants will be going into the Academy and those that would be given wildcard entries.
The judges gave 12 of the contestants automatic entry into the academy. The contestants that gained automatic entry are Favour, Okiemute, Pere, Eli, Gabriel, Dapo, Oluchi, Solomon, Mirabel, Elizabeth, Winner and Yusuph. This meant that the remaining 6 contestants; Benjamin, Blessing, Kitay, Kissi, Seun, and Steve had to battle it out with their voices and stage craft if they had any hope of making it into the Academy. At the end of performances, the Judges gave the duo of Steve and Kitay the nod to join the other 12 contestants in the academy.
It was however not all sad news for Kissi, Seun, Benjamin, and Blessing as they will automatically assume the Wild Card contestant positions. What this means is that one of the contestants can be brought back into the show through viewers votes. The contestants with the highest votes has the opportunity to make it into the academy as a wild card.
This signalled the beginning of a journey to stardom for these 14 contestants who have to battle it out every week to gain the approval of the judges and the faculty to achieve their dreams of emerging tops. The winner of project fame 9.0 will walk away with N5 Million; a brand new SUV, and a recording contract worth millions of Naira while the first, second and third runner up will walk away with N3 Million and a brand new saloon car, N2 Million and a brand new saloon car and N2 Million respectively.
