No Match Bonuses For Nigerian Olympic Football Team – The Nigerian Olympic Committee has decided against paying match bonuses to the Nigerian Olympic football team.
The Nigerian Football Federation had tried to make a case for payment of $3000 match bonuses to the Samson Siasia-led players, but the NOC has refused the idea.
The NOC reportedly rejected the idea as it didn’t want other athletes to think the football team was being treated specially, which could have adverse effects on their morale. The NOC added that it would provide daily camp allowances and handle the welfare of players and athletes in Brazil, and that the individual sporting federations were open to spending more if they so wished.
Asides from football, Nigeria will also be competing at 8 other medal events at the Rio Olympic games, which begins on the 6th of August. The Dream Team VI will face Sweden, Colombia and Japan in Group B, and will be hoping to emulate the success of the Atlanta ’96 Dream Team.
