Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has scotched suggestions Barcelona are about to seal a €22m deal for striker Luciano Vietto.
Recent reports in Spain have suggested that Barca are on the verge of snapping up Vietto, who joined Atletico Madrid from Villarreal last summer. Sevilla have also been linked with the Argentinian too. Atleti president Cerezo has discussed the youngster’s situation and says he wants the player to stay at the Vicente Calderon, although hinted that the hitman could leave.
“Luciano Vietto is an Atletico player and right now we have not decided anything, nor have we received an offer from Barcelona,” he is quoted as saying in Marca. “It is not logical to say that he will go to Barcelona, because we have not had contact with them.
“I am one of those who thinks that players have to be at the club where they are wanted. Neither is Vietto going to Sevilla on loan. We want him to stay, but also we have to say how things develop. He is a fantastic player, with enormous potential. I want to stay here this year, I feel loved by the fans who want the best for me, and the best is yet to come.
“I hope to be allowed to start afresh- I’d like to push on, to continue improving. After being at Real for five years, I want to make the next step.”
