Former Nigerian footballer, Austin Jay Jay Okocha and his brother, Emmanuel Okocha launched their charity organisation Jay-Jay Okocha Foundation.
The announcement was made, Tuesday, (July, 5) at i-naira.com digital hub in Ikoyi where Austin Okocha described the aim of the foundation as using football to raise awareness on the strategic importance of Education, Peace and Unity for the economic growth of Nigeria.
Okocha added that as a non-profit organisation, the Jay-Jay Okocha Foundation will raise its funds by certain means such as, “auctioning of football memorabilia especially those belonging to the founder (Jay-Jay Okocha) to raise money for charitable causes, and organisation of Testimonial Matches that will attract big ticket sponsorship and donors to the cause of the foundation.”
The former Super Eagles’ skipper said, “Football changed my life and I am going to use football as a tool to impact Nigerian lives positively”.
He emphasized his desire to give back to society especially to the most vulnerable and less privileged children.
Jay Jay Okocha said he is willing to raise the required finance to sponsor the charity’s cause by selling his cherished items acquired in the course of his professional career through i-naira.com as it meets the organisation’s ethics to raise money through auctioning.
Keeping true to the aim of the Jay Jay Okocha Foundation a NIKE Jay-Jay Okocha Foundation Jersey was unveiled to the press for auction and the first live bid took place where Mr. Eddie Lawani emerged the highest bidder at N260,000.
Mr. Hassan Adeleke, Registrar /CEO CERTIFIED INSTITUTION OF AUCTIONEERS, NIGERIA (CIAN) conducted the auction.
