Hamburg have completed the signing of Croatia midfielder Alen Halilovic from Barcelona on a four-year contract.

The former Dinamo Zagreb youth player passed a medical in Hamburg on Thursday before putting pen to paper to end a two-year spell with Barca which included a year on loan at Sporting Gijon last season.

Hamburg paid a €5 million fee to Barcelona to acquire the player on a permanent deal. However,“Barcelona will hold a buy-back option for the first two years of the player’s contract for a value of 10 million euros,” Barca said in a statement.

He scored three goals in 36 La Liga appearances for Sporting and missed out on Croatia’s Euro 2016 squad. He has eight caps.
