Police Comb Kaduna State For Kidnapped Sierra-Leonean Diplomat, Alfred Nelson-Williams.
Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) have on Friday embarked on a search and rescue operation for an abducted Sierra Leonean Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Alfred Nelson-Williams in Kaduna state.
Nelson was reported to have been abducted along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, on Thursday, by unknown gunmen, while going to honour an invitation by the Nigerian military, to attend a graduation ceremony at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State, on Friday.
Confirming the abduction, the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, said the acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had been briefed about the development.
Awunah said the IGP had immediately dispatched a special team to ensure Mr. Nelson is rescued.
“The police have confirmed the unfortunate abduction of the senior diplomat and the IGP has commenced rescue operation,” Mr. Awunah said. “By tomorrow morning, there would be air surveillance and everything possible would be done to rescue him.”
Several attempts by the Sierra Leonean embassy officials to reach Nelson through his mobile phone has proved abortive, the report says.
