Beyonce Denies Copying 'Lemonade'

Beyonce Denies Copying ‘Lemonade’ – Beyonce’s legal team has responded to a lawsuit from filmmaker Matthew Fulks over her Lemonade video.

Fulks had filed a lawsuit back in June, claiming Bey had copied 9 elements including “red persons with eyes obscured,” “graffiti and persons with heads down” and “side-lit ominous figures” from his 2014 short film, Palinoia.

In a motion fowarded to the Southern District Court of New York, Beyonce’s lawyer Tom Ferber stated that the singer didn’t copy anything from the film.

“A straightforward comparison of the parties’ works provides a textbook example of what does not constitute a legally cognizable claim if infringement,” the motion states. “The SAC describes elements and features of the works in abstractions to broad as to be meaningless — because, as even a cursory review of the parties’ works makes clear, at the level of copyrightable expression the works are markedly dissimilar.”

Both sides are scheduled to meet in court on the 25th of August.
