Avengers Stages Fresh Attacks On Chevron, NNPC Facilities In Niger Delta

After weeks of inactivity following a proposed peace talks with the Federal Government, the rampaging Niger Delta militants, Avengers, on Sunday morning returned with fresh attacks on major oil and gas installations in Nigeria.

The oil facilities bombed by the militants belonged to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and Chevron within the Niger Delta region.

The renewed hostility affected two major oil wells, well head 7 and 8 situated near Abiteye flow station in Warri South West Council Area of Delta state.

The militant group also stated that it attacked two major crude oil trunkline operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company close to Batan flow station.

Meanwhile, the oil firms are yet to confirm the claims made by the militants.

Garbadeen Mohammed, the spokesman for NNPC, said the state-run oil corporation was not aware of any damage to its facilities in the region.

Also, a front desk officer at Chevron Nigeria Limited could not speak on the attacks as she said that the company’s media department only works on weekdays.

It is not clear the reason for the new attacks after two weeks of what appeared to be cessation of hostilities by the militants.
