Zayn Malik is seeking Adele’s help in dealing with his anxiety issues after he pulled out of the Capital Summertime Ball at the last minute, following another breakdown last weekend.
The former One Direction star who cancelled his performance one and a half hours after he was due on stage wrote on Instagram to his disappointed fans who had been waiting for him:
“Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me. With the magnitude of the event I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.
I cannot apologize enough but I want to be honest with everyone who has patiently waited to see me, I promise I will do my best to make this up to everybody I’ve let down today. I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don’t can empathize with my situation.”
Zayn Malik has struggled with anxiety throughout his career even as a member of One Direction; going solo only made it hard.
The 23-year-old reached out to Adele as she also had stage fright early in her career and has overcome it.
In a 2011 Q magazine interview, Adele disclosed, ”I have anxiety attacks, constant panicking on stage, my heart feels like it’s going to explode because I never feel like I’m going to deliver, ever. I will not do festivals. The thought of an audience that big frightens the life out of me. I don’t think the music would work either. It’s all too slow. I’d hate to book a festival and have a f****** anxiety attack and then not go on stage.”
Adele who is presently on her world tour is travelling with a personal therapist who is helping her deal with her anxiety issues which include stage fright and the fear of flying.
A source from Zayn’s team said, “Zayn’s management are doing everything they can to help him because it’s having a major impact on his career. I believe he’s been in touch with Adele’s manager Johnathan Dickins about it because Adele got a lot of help with panic attacks and stage fright – and look at her now.
They’re pulling in people who can help him because he can overcome this and if he’s going to stay in music and singing he absolutely has to get it under control.”
Adele is due for a headline performance at Glastonbury this weekend. Due to her fear of performing at festivals and before large crowds the singer had previously turned down past offers to play there and at other festivals. But now she can perform.
Adele to the rescue! Zayn could get a tip or two from her.
