Ronke Shonde: Court Remands Alleged Wife Killer To Prison, Trial Adjourned To July 8

An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate Court has on Friday ordered the remand of an alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, in prison custody for an additional period of 14 days.

Lekan, who was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder had appeared before the court on May 20 and was remanded in prison custody after the case was adjourned to June 24 (today) for further hearing.

However, at the resumed trial, the prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, disclosed to the Chief Magistrate, Oluwayemisi Adelaja, that he had received a copy of the legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs), when the case was mentioned.

In reaction to Uwadione’s submission, the counsel to Shonde, Mr. I. B. Mohammed, told the court that he was yet to be served his own copy of the legal advice and would like to apply for it.

The prosecutor further stated that the offence contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 which prescribes a death sentence for convicts.

After much deliberation, the Chief Magistrate held that Shonde should remain in prison custody and then adjourned the case to July 8 for mention.
