Metamorphostyle – A Fresh Perspective On Classic Sartorial Matters (Photos)

There was an upping of the ante on all things sartorial when The SenseBox Nigeria, a consulting company launched its creative platform: Metamorphostyle – An Evening of Sartorial Conversations on Friday, 20th May 2016.

As the e-invite promised, it was indeed an evening of intimate gathering of tastemakers, influencers and purveyors of masculine style and aesthetic. Unlike the norm, the exclusive by invitation only event kicked off promptly on the manicured lawns of Miliki (7b, Etim Inyang Crescent, VI. Lagos) at 6pm with guest protocol impeccably managed with dispatch by Event architects, No Surprises.

After quick photo-ops, the pre-event cocktail commenced with interesting whisky-based mixes by Chivas mixologist were served and complemented by tasty canapés. The venue’s eclectic decor served as background as soft lounge music filtered through the hidden speakers, with light banter and easy conversation flowed as guests mingled easily.

The main event started at scheduled at 7pm with guest ushered into the inner recesses of the Miliki gallery already set up with minimalist furnishing to create a relaxed atmosphere with mood lighting and cozy sitting arrangement.

After a brief welcome and introduction, the event curator and Creative Director of Metamorphostyle, ‘Segun Obagbemi took the audience on a journey to the auspicious origins of the now ubiquitous suit; he highlighted the relevance of this humble garment to everyday life and special occasions. He further shared the suit’s largely unknown history from French royalty and aristocracy from Louis XIV, through Regency England to the modern day.

The evening progressed to one of the highlights: the trunk show of Brommon – an Italian bespoke menswear brand. The owner, Kwaku Boateng Akuoko presented the unique selling proposition of his exquisite hand-finished custom garments. He spoke about his brand’s plans for the Nigerian whilst answering questions from guests. His showcase was followed by a style guide on building a classic wardrobe, with guests also participating in general discussions and Q&A with prizes given out.

The two and half hour event ended with positive feedback and kudos from guests to the organisers on them having shared in a unique experience – one that provided fun and gave an exposition on menswear from a cerebral perspective. The evening attracted an interesting mix of discerning people related to the subject matter and most others just looking to learn more about men’s style. According to Segun Obagbemi, the event will run as a series with different themes around enhancing the modern man. We are surely looking forward to the next one with bated breath!
