The Nigerian football community was almost on the verge of bereavement following the auto crash that occurred on Friday, involving the players and officials of the Lagos-based Professional Football League outfit, Ikorodu United.

The accident happened at about 4pm along AMA Brewery Road 9th Mile, Enugu, as the team was enroute Makurdi where they are expected to lock horns with Lobi Stars in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League game.

The team was travelling in a Chisco bus, which collided with a truck that over-turned and burst into flames.

There was no account of death from the players but injuries were sustained by the traveling team as players escaped through the window of the bus.

Confirming the incident to Goal, the media manager of the Lagos-based club, Babatunde Ayoola, said:

“It happened at about 4pm this evening when a trailer was trying to get hold of itself , lost control and faced out bus,”

“Players sustained minor injuries from the knees to the shoulder because everybody escaped through the window. The bus is condemned but we thank God that none of us died.”

Meanwhile, the club, which is currently at the bottom of the Nigeria League table; having only recorded a paltry 15 points from 21 games, has announced that the Sunday match with Lobi star has been postponed.

The new date, it was learnt, would be communicated soon.
