Members of State House of Assembly in Ekiti State held a protest in the state capital today, Wednesday, over the blocking of Governor Ayo Fayose’s bank account.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, June 20, 2016, blocked the Ekiti Governor’s Zenith bank account on . The agency alleged that Fayose’s bank account was used to launder funds meant for the purchase of arms.
Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly expressed a total disapproval over the actions of the EFCC describing it as illegal.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Kola Oluwole explained that the protest was to show that the lawmakers are in support of the Governor.
According to Oluwole, “No amount of intimidation, harassment, arrest will push us to do any dirty job. We have had enough of intimidation. They should leave Governor Fayose alone, he was duly elected by the people of Ekiti state.
“The frozen of his account without following due process is a high level of intimidation and we condemn it.”
The Deputy Speaker, Segun Adewumi, also shared his own disapproval with the EFCC’s action saying “If Fayose built house anywhere, it is not their business; they should wait until he finishes his tenure.”
The Governor, Ayo Fayose in his response to the press said that no one can intimidate him.
