Italy 2-0 Spain: Azzurri Exerts Revenge On Defending Champions

share on:

Italy finally has their revenged against Spain, as they ended a bad run against La Roja. Emerging 2-0 winners in the last-16 of the Euros and subsequently knocking the holders out.

Spain beat the Azzurri in 2008, and also thrashed them 4-0 in the 2012 final. Conte’s men have not beaten the Spaniards since 1994, but emerged deserved winners at the Stade de France.

Giorgio Chiellini scored the opener after the half-hour mark. With De Gea’s heroics giving Del Bosque’s men a chance of getting back into the encounter.

Morata could only send his header straight at Buffon. And Italy’s strong defence withstood pressure from Spain’s attack.

Buffon made a wondrous save to deny Gerard Pique in the last minute of normal time and Graziano Pelle struck the final blow in stoppage time as Italy’s slick counter-attack claimed another victim.
