Governor Ortom Fires All LG Council Chairpersons In Benue

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has dismissed all the chairpersons of the state’s 23 local government caretaker councils.

The decision to relieve the caretaker Chairmen of their duties was taken on Wednesday, at the end of the weekly State Executive Council (SEC), meeting presided over by the governor in Makurdi, the state capital.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the State Commissioner of Information, Odey Ageh, directed the outgoing chairmen to hand over to their respective Directors General Service and Administration, DGSA.

“They have also been directed to hand over all government property including their officials cars to their respective DGSAs who would run the councils until further notice,” Agey added.

One of the affected council chairmen, who pleaded not to be mentioned, said they had been informed ahead of the sack to handover all government properties including officials cars in their possession to Director Generals, Local Government Administration and Service unfailingly by Thursday.

The next local govt elections in the state will hold in September, 2016.
