A young aspiring artist, John Edward, popularly known as Inas has fallen to the tyranny of the policemen in Benue State, as claimed by his family and friends.
According to the family and friends of Inas, the police in Benue State are framed him for murder and robbery. This happened when Inas went to confront an officer who seized his BlackBerry phone.
The story goes that Inas was returning from a video shoot on Wednesday, June 1, when he was arrested by police officers from Division C in Makurdi. After two days in police custody without being charged, he was granted bail on Friday after his family members and friends paid the sum of N20, 000. But he was asked to return the next day, Saturday, to collect his phone because the officer, nicknamed ‘magistrate’ who was in possession of the phone was not in the station at the time.’
According to his friend, Johnicks, who produced the song and was directing the music video being shot, Inas returned the next day. The policeman, however, was said to have told Inas not to disturb him about the phone, threatening to re-arrest him if he did.
Inas, then, returned the next week on Monday to retrieve the phone. The policeman this time around told him to wait as he went into one of the offices in the station. After about four hours of waiting, the policeman returned to handcuff him and sent him along with two other persons arrested the previous night to the state police command on charges of homicide, robbery and criminal conspiracy.
Johnicks explained that he took the clips of the video shoot they were having with the accused to prove that the young rapper could not have been involved in an armed robbery or murder on that date. Unfortunately, his protest fell on deaf ears.
So far, Inas and the other suspects appeared at a Magistrates’ court in Makurdi on Monday, June 13 and were later remanded in prison custody till August 8.
