The Former Minister of Transport and Secretary to the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Ojo Maduekwe is reported dead.
Mr. Maduekwe was confirmed dead at about 7pm on Wednesday at a hospital in Abuja.
Born on the 6th of May, 1945 in Abia state, the Minister of Culture and Tourism and a former Minister of Transportation was said to have passed on, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on his return from a trip to the United States through Dubai, where he fell ill.
Sources hinted that he collapsed on arrival and was rushed to the Turkish Hospital, Abuja where he was confirmed dead.
“He fell ill while on air from Dubai and he was rushed to the hospital as soon as the plane landed in Abuja, but he died before doctors could do much,” he said.
The deceased was, in April, appointed the secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He also served as Minister of Transport in the administration of former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and later as national secretary of the PDP before being posted to Canada as Nigeria’s Ambassador.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of PDP’s BoT, Senator Walid Jibri, has expressed shock and disbelief at the news, adding that he had not been officially informed of the development.
