#CopaAmerica2016: Guerrero The Lone Scorer In Peru Win Over Haiti

share on:

Paolo Guerrero was the man of the moment for Peru, as they secured a 1-0 win over Haiti in their Copa America Centenario opener.

The 32-year-old scored the lone goal at the CenturyLink Field in Seattle, giving Peru a fine start to the Copa.

The goal also means the forward is Peru’s all time highest goalscorer with 27 goals, moving past Teofilo Culibas.

Peru were the better team, and could have gone ahead at halftime, only for Edison Flores to send his chance straight at the crossbar, after Guerrero set him up.

But Flores managed to return the favor in the 61st minute, putting in a delightful cross to Guerrero, who lost his man and converted the winning goal with a diving header.

The win puts Peru top of Group B, with Brazil still to face Ecuador later in the day.
