Colombia put in their best performance so far. And it finally paid off in the 31st minute, after the AC Milan man scored from close range.

Both sides played earlier in the competition, the curtain-raiser of the showpiece event. With Colombia emerging 2-0 winners.

James Rodriguez sent in a stunning through ball, which Bacca latched on to. And converted for his 13th international goal.

The USA did have chances, with Bobby Wood going close and Clint Dempsey’s set-piece forcing Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina into a fine save.

Both teams finished the clash with 10 men, following late red cards to Michael Orozco and Santiago Arias.
