Piers Morgan came under fire for saying Muhammad Ali was more racist than Donald Trump.
Following the passing of the greatest boxer of all time, Donald Trump like every other person in the world touched by the legend’s death, expressed his condolence.
The Republican presidential candidate could have kept his peace seeing as he received harsh criticism from people who called him a hypocrite for mourning the late legend who was a Muslim, while he was campaigning for a ban to stop foreign Muslims from entering the United States.
In a show of support to Trump, Piers Morgan tweeted, that it was a “fact” that Ali said “far more inflammatory/racist things about white people than Donald Trump ever has about Muslims”.
A statement John Legend and wife, Chrissy Teigen found offensive, and condemned the talk-show host for. Teigen and Legend accused Piers Morgan of being racist, for defending Donald Trump.
Piers Morgan tweeted, “Why sugar-coat what Ali said or stood for? He never did that to himself, or when speaking to others. I hope people don’t make me sound too perfect when I die. No coats of sugar please.”
Legend replied to the tweet about his “death” saying: “You could test us by announcing your retirement.” His wife, Teigen, replied: “From what? Trolling isn’t a job (I’ve tried).”
Morgan offered a sarcastic remark: “Maybe I should take up a proper job, like modelling?” to which Teigen replied: “It keeps me nice and not-racist so sure, give it a go.”
In a bid to buttress his point, Piers Morgan shared Youtube video links of Muhammad Ali’s interviews where the boxer slammed integration and interracial-marriage.
In an excerpt from the interview, Muhammad Ali said:
“Integration is wrong, we don’t want to live with the white man. I’m sure no intelligent white person in his or her right mind wants black men and women marrying their white sons and daughters and in return introducing their grandchildren to half brown, kinky-haired people. I want to be with my own.
No women on this whole earth can please me and cook for me and socialize and talk to me like an American black woman.
You can’t take no Chinese man and give him no Puerto Rican woman and talking like they’re in love and emotionally in love and physically’,” he said in 1971.
Muhammad Ali also said in another interview, ‘All Jews and gentiles are devils. Blacks are no devils. Everything black people doing wrong comes from (the white people): Drinking, smoking, prostitution, homosexuality, stealing, gambling. It all comes from (the white people).”
“A black man should be killed if he’s messing around with a white woman” And if a black woman was messing with a white man? “Then she dies. Kill her too.”
Several years later after having a shift in his earlier views about life and religion, Muhammad Ali said, “Over the years my religion has changed and my spirituality has evolved.
Religion and spirituality are very different, but people often confuse the two. Some things cannot be taught, but they can be awakened in the heart.
Spirituality is recognizing the divine light that is within us all. It doesn’t belong to any particular religion; it belongs to everyone. We all have the same God, we just serve him differently…It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Muslim, a Christian, or a Jew.
When you believe in God, you should believe that all people are part of one family. If you love God, you can’t love only some of his children.”
