Gary Cahill believes it is important for England to finish top of the group, ahead of their final game against Slovakia.
The three lions top the group with four points after two games. And need a win to retain that spot. They could still finish too if they draw, and Wales fail to beat Russia.
Finishing top, will see them face third place finishers in Groups A, C or D. With a second place finish pairing then up against runners up in Group F.
However, if they finish third, they could face the winners of Group C or D. Which is currently occupied by Germany and Spain. And Cahill understands how tough it’ll be to face either team.
“To top the group gives us the best opportunity to move forward in the competition,” the defender told FATV.
“So that is our goal and we are all aware of that. We want to finish top and we feel that we are good enough to do that – we just need to prove it against Slovakia.
“They need a result to stay in the competition as well and we know it’s going to be a hard game.”
