A senior Barcelona figure travelled to Boston at the weekend to meet unsettled centre-back Javier Mascherano, reports AS.
Mascherano has been linked with a move away from the Camp Nou this summer and it has even been reported that he arranged a pre-contract agreement with long-term suitors Juventus. However, Barca do not want to let the influential Argentinian leave.
As such, Barca’s sporting director Robert Fernandez flew out to Boston at the weekend in order to discuss improving Mascherano’s contract with the centre-back.
The La Liga champions are planning to increase Mascherano’s salary, while his contract will be extended until 2018 with an option for a further year.
