UK based photojournalist Nigerian-British Michael Tubi, popularly known as Michael Tubes (360NoBS’ international photographer) officially opened his exhibition ‘Afrobeats by Michael Tubi’ on the 23rd of June presenting his entire photographic collection on the music genre.
Michael Tubi sets the record by being the first exhibitor to showcase a room filled with African musical artists as he has documented over five years. His unique eye for photography goes back to his teenage years when he didn’t even have his own personal camera but enjoyed the story a picture tells, the diversity of the variation in light, and the fun you have with a camera. This prompted him to return to university to study photography. His passion has since seen him taking pictures of prominent people in the society, going on tours with artists to capture the tale of the event and mastering photojournalism.
In ‘Afrobeats by Michael Tubi’ the acclaimed photojournalist explores the journey of AfroBeats and how AfroBeats has become a global phenomenon appreciated by different races and cultures – its richness, colour, feel. Afrobeats by Michael Tubi brings to light the success and growth of this music genre that is no longer reserved for Africans only.
In 2015, he showcased “Sounds of Africa”, giving a platform to the richness of contemporary music while bringing a new audience to experience the variety in the culture.
The exhibition closes on the 27th of June, opens from 10am – 7pm (25.06.2016 – 26.06.2016) and 10AM – 4pm (27.06.2016).
Venue: Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL
