No less than nineteen passengers were feared dead on Sunday, when a fuel laden tanker-truck collided with an 18-seater passenger bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the Fidiwo/Ajebo area.
The road mishap, which involved three vehicles – a cement laden Dangote truck marked AJG 40 XA, a petroleum tanker truck with registration number RAN 571 XA and a passenger bus marked (LAGOS) AGL 373 XR – occurred at about 1:00pm at a section of the road where there is a diversion of traffic to a single lane, due to construction work on the road.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ogun state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the accident was caused by the driver of a loaded fuel tanker, which was travelling to Ibadan.
Akinbiyi stated that all the 18 passengers in the bus and the driver died on the spot.
He added: “Our men who were at the scene of the accident said that all the 18 passengers in the bus and the driver died on the spot, while the cement truck which had also given way to the overtaking tanker was also affected by the impact of the crash.”
