Nigerian Premier Football League side Plateau United have announced the death of one of their players, Simon Shehu.
Shehu’s death was reportedly confirmed by the club’s general manager, Pius Senwan, who revealed that Shehu had passed on Sunday morning on his way to Kaduna. Shehu was reportedly traveling to prepare for his upcoming wedding.
“It is with deep shock that we announced the untimely death of our player, Simon Shehu, who died in an auto crash earlier today (Sunday). I got the information during our match against Kano Pillars but the incident happened before the match. I am still in shock because he was travelling home to prepare for his wedding coming up next week Saturday,” Senwan was quoted as saying.
Shehu was playing his third season for Plateau United, and was a part of the team that won promotion to the NPFL last season.
