The 25-year old Olympiakos striker was reportedly coming back from a party and was travelling to Ciudad Victoria when the incident occurred. His girlfriend was present in the car with him when the kidnappers accosted them. The kidnappers were reportedly 6 in number, and his girlfriend was left unhurt in the car.

Pulido joined Olympiakos last year, and the club posted a message of support on its Twitter page saying: “We sincerely hope that this ordeal ends before long and that Alan returns home safe and sound.”

Kidnapping and extortion are said to be a common crime in Tamaulipas, with Pulido’s case shining the international light on what has become a national problem. “We have information that he was intercepted by armed persons and since then his whereabouts are unknown,” the state attorney general Ismael Quintanilla said.
