Niger Delta Militants Blow Up Escravos Pipeline

Militants suspected to be members of the Niger Delta Avengers have attacked a section of the Escravos gas pipeline behind Salvation City, near Ogbe-Ijoh in Warri South West local government area of Delta state.

The pipeline, which links Warri to Lagos, was blown up on Friday morning.

It was gathered that the facility belongs to phase two of the Escravos-Lagos gas pipeline owned by the Nigerian Gas Company Limited.

The group had attacked the pipeline in February, 2016.

Consequently, the destruction will worsen the country’s energy crisis, with power generation below 2,000 megawatts and oil production down to 1.4 million from 2.2 million barrels per day.

Meanwhile, the group, which has claimed responsibility for recent attacks, has yet to comment on the attack.
