The National Assembly will be shut down for one week to enable senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fold attend the party’s congress.

The Senate President Bukola Saraki, today, announced the adjournment of plenary till next Thursday to enable the PDP Senators attend their party congress.

It was gathered that the motion was not argued as the number of senators present during today’s plenary was not up the required number to form a quorum.

Most of the PDP senators had attended their party’s local government congress, which took place yesterday, so their absence compelled the Senate to hurriedly adjourn.

The Senate, thereafter adjourned plenary till Thursday, May 12.

The Senate rules state that a quorum is formed for plenary when one-third (at least 37 senators) of the senators are present.
