Lucescu Is Zenit St. Petersburg New Coach

Mircea Lucescu has quit Shakhtar Donetsk for a two-year-deal at Zenit St. Petersburg, the club has confirmed.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk man, was in charge for 12 years in Ukraine, winning eight league titles and the UEFA cup in 2009.

Andres Villas Boas opted not to extend his contract, as he is taking a sabbatical year.

Lucescu guided Shakhtar to the Europa League semi-finals this season, where they were beaten 5-3 on aggregate by eventual champions Sevilla.

He could not end his tenure with a ninth Ukrainian league crown, as Dynamo Kiev comfortably beat them to the title by seven points.
