Kano State Buries 8 Students – 8 students who died on their way from Lagos after representing Kano state at the National Quiz Competition have been buried.
The bus, which was carrying 16 students, was involved in a horrific motor accident along Iroko road, via Ibadan, Oyo State. 7 of the students and the driver had died on the spot of the accident, while the 8th student gave up the ghost at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi visited the survivors at the hospital, where he offered to pay for their treatment.
Ajimobi said, “This is most unfortunate and depressing to me and the good people of Oyo State. My heartfelt sympathy goes to the governor of Kano State, parents and the loved ones of the dead students and other victims. May their gentle souls rest in perfect peace. They are children and we all have children. So, we have to come and empathize with them. I want to use this opportunity to announce that we will settle the bills and take adequate care of the surviving ones.”
The bodies were transported by air back to Kano state under the watch of Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kabir Ibrahim, and a funeral prayer was held on Thursday morning at the Emir’s Palace in Kano.
The Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as well as members of the state Executive Council were all present at the burial.
