The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, has dismissed rumours making the round that he is dead, describing it as the handiwork of mischief makers.
Rumours of the death of Anenih had made headlines on several online media houses (not 360nobs) in the early hours of Wednesday and continued to trend on the social media.
Naij had specifically reported that Anenih had collapsed on Sunday morning while taking breakfast at his Durham Broadway private London house.
However, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chief Anenih, who personally spoke from London via telephone conversation, said he is currently hale and hearty.
Leadership Newspaper gathered that he said: “If I am dead, will I be talking to you?
“I am in London.
“I am alive and enjoying myself.
“I am not going to issue any press release to debunk the rumour.
“God will punish them and I believe that they will die before me.
“I will be back by Sunday.”
Also reacting to the rumoured death, the Edo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, in a press statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Chris Nehikhare, said,
“We wish to inform the general public, especially our teeming supporters in Nigeria and Edo State in particular, that Chief Tony Anenih is alive, hale and hearty and will return to Nigeria on Sunday after a brief visit to the United Kingdom. Please disregard all the media”.
Similarly, Vincent Akhere, one of the close allies of the Uromi Chief, dispelled the rumoured death, saying he spoke with Anenih for about 15 minutes and both of them joked over the issue.
He said Chief Anenih just left for the United Kingdom Tuesday and is expected by this weekend.
