Carlos Beruff, a Florida Republican running to replace Sen. Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate has called the United States President an animal, and he isn’t sorry about it.
Beruff who is also a real estate developer was caught on video making the utterance during a public address to Florida Republicans where he unapologetically criticized Obama’s method of running the country and military.
He said in his speech, “Unfortunately, for seven and a half years this animal we call president, because he’s an animal, okay, seven and a half years, has surgically and with thought and very smart, intelligent manner, destroyed this country and dismantled the military.”
Beruff’s words have been met with disdain on both supporting and opposing sides as he has been admonished to apologize to the president which he has declined.
In defense of his comments, Beruff and his campaign team released a statement where he said his words were taken out of context.
Beruff said, “The Democrats think it is a mistake for me to use strong language condemning them for hollowing out our military and making America weaker. I think it is a mistake for them to hollow out our military and make America weaker.”
Few politicians in the country have aired their distaste for Beruff’s rude remarks.
Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla, said in a brief interview with ABC News on Capitol Hill today, “I think the comment is replete with racial overtones, and he should apologize immediately. I don’t think there’s any place in modern American politics or political discourse to call the president of the United States an animal.”
Another candidate running to replace Rubio, Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., in a statement called Beruff’s remarks “offensive” and “extremely disrespectful.
Murphy said, “In the U.S. Senate, our diverse state deserves better than Mr. Beruff’s clear record of bigotry.”
If anyone dares publicly call Buhari an animal, what will happen?
