The Edo State House of Assembly has on Tuesday impeached its speaker, Mr Tiger Victor Edoror and his deputy, Mr Bright Osayande, for alleged abuse of office, misconduct and abuse of power.
The impeachment led to the appointment of Mrs Elizabeth Ativie (Uhumwonde constituency) as the new Speaker, while Justin Okonobo (Igueben constituency) emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
Ativie is known in her constituency to have influenced and completed various laudable projects especially in Oke, Orhua, Irhue, Idummwui ugha and Izikhiri.
She has once served as Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, a position she used to bring development and uplift women in Edo State.
Immediately the new speaker was sworn in, the impeached speaker and his deputy walked into the chamber in company of thugs shooting sporadically to scare people out of the chambers. In the process a lot of people sustained various degrees of injuries.
Meanwhile, a day after the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly and his deputy were impeached, there were heavy presence of security operatives seen around the complex.
Police officials and those of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were seen around the complex with arms, blocking access to the House of Assembly.
