A new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, has made it clear that the group is not seeking for oil pipeline contracts but for a sovereign state.
The declaration is coming barely 2 days after the group, in two separate attacks, bombed pipelines close to Escravos Tank Farm at Ciera creek, near Abiteye community, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State, operated by Chevron Nigeria Limited.
At about 8:10am on Friday, in a tweet on its Twitter handle, the group also took responsibility for the attack on another NNPC crude oil and gas trunk lines, near Warri, Delta State, at 11.45 pm on Thursday.
The militant group claimed that the facility was closely guarded by soldiers when its strike team struck.
The tweet read: “At 11:45PM on Thursday, @NDAvengers blew up another NNPC Gas and Crude trunkline close to Warri. Pipeline that was heavily guarded by the military.”
Speaking on the meeting held by the Niger Delta stakeholders, the group said:
“The Niger Delta stakeholders meeting is an insult to the people of the Niger Delta. What we need is a sovereign state, not pipeline contracts.
“To the International Oil Companies, IOCs and the Nigeria military, watch out, something big is about to happen and it would shock the whole world.”
It was gathered that both lines of Chevron were blown up during Wednesday’s downpour which prevented residents and workers from hearing the explosions.
