The Football Association have confirmed the charging of Tottenham midfielder, Mousa Dembele for his eye gouging of Costa.
The FA also stated the Belgium midfielder’s action constitute more than the three-match ban for violent conduct.
The former Fulham man has until 6pm on Thursday to appeal the charge, with reports suggesting he could be banned for up to 10 matches.
“Mousa Dembele has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video during the same game,” a statement read.
“The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was involved in an incident with Chelsea’s Diego Costa near the end of the first half.
“Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”
Both Tottenham and Chelsea have also been charged with failing to control their players after a series of incidents throughout the match during which Spurs’s failure to win secured the Premier League title for Leicester City.
