An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of alleged wife killer, Lekan Shonde, in prison for a period of 30 days, following the death of his wife, Ronke Shonde, in their Egbeda residence on Thursday, May 5th 2016.
This is just as the suspect pleaded not guilty to the accusation of killing his wife.
The Lagos State Police Command had arraigned him before Chief Magistrate O. A. Adelaja on charges of murder on Friday.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Chinalu Uwadione, told the court that the offence contravened Sections 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction attracts life imprisonment.
Also, an autopsy report released on Wednesday had attributed the cause of her death to “respiratory seizure as a result of water in the head and some injuries also in the head”.
At the court ruling on Friday, Adelaja held that the accused be remanded in custody at the Ikoyi Prisons, pending an advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
Adelaja then adjourned the case to June 24th 2016.
