BREAKING! Buhari Signs 2016 Budget

After weeks of horse-trading between the Presidency and the National Assembly, President Mohammadu Buhari finally assented to the 2016 Appropriation Bill, giving way for full implementation of the budget.

The president signed the 2016 budget just a moment ago at the presidential Villa, Abuja.

It would be recalled that the budget was laid before a joint session of the National Assembly on December 22, 2015.

The legislators altered the budget in many ways as a result of which the President withheld assent.

The appropriation bill kept going back and forth several times until a panel made up of members from both sides met for several days last week to resolve the impasse.

 After five months of controversial ‘padding’ which led to the plethora of arguments and counter-arguments, the president, apparently satisfied with the corrections made on the document, on Friday, May 6, put ink on paper, signing the dotted lines.
