Fulani Herdsmen have reportedly abducted a police man and a youth after engaging a joint team of the Nigerian Army and Mobile Police Force personnel in a gun battle in Agatu community, Benue state.
The attack, which is the second in the last 2 months left a police officer, Corporal Ebiakpo Akparakazi and a youth, Inalegwu Chele missing.
Confirming the incident, when contacted, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Moses Yamu, said that search teams have been sent out to comb every where for the missing officer.
It was gathered that trouble started as the fierce cattle rustlers opened fire on the security team who were on their way to investigate an alleged killing of two youths, after receiving a distress call.
It was also learnt that the two youths reported to have been shot by the herdsmen were rescued and treatment is currently being administered to them.
In a related development, hoodlums, including Fulani herdsmen have on Tuesday night, invaded a farm belonging to a former Secretary to the Oyo State Government, Mr. Ayodele Adigun and forced settlers in the place to flee their residence.
Eyewitnesses disclose that the invaders, who stormed the farm settlement at Lagun, in Lagelu Local Government area of the state around 9pm with dangerous weapons, were not only Fulani herdsmen as some of them reportedly spoke in pidgin English, Fulani and Yoruba.
Reacting to the attack, the owner of the farm, Mr. Adigun said residents of the settlement had run for dear life and had relocated to another place noting that “to me, the invasion of the farm was a ploy to permanently sack the farmers from the community so that they could take over and use the farm as grazing field.”
