An Islamic-based organization, Rasulul A’Azam Foundation (RAAF), SHI’A, has described as ‘untrue’ allegations that the group is violent and it disregards legitimately constituted authority.
Speaking at a one-day interactive session with security agencies during the weekend in Kano, the president of the foundation, Sheikh Nuru Dass, dispelled the assumption that SHI’A is violent as being perceived by the general public, The Punch reports.
Dass also stated that the group is completely different from the El-Zakzaky Islamic group, based in Zaria, Kaduna State, pointing out that the Zaria-based Islamic group was fully entrenched in 1997, with a pronounced departure from the original SHI’A, earlier introduced to the country from Iran.
Also speaking, a well known Shi’a Cleric and Secretary-General of RAAF, a registered Shi’a organization, Sheikh Saleh Zaria, in a paper presentation, titled; Shi’ism in Nigeria, Misconception, Origin and History, tongue-lashed the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Shiekh Ibrahim El- Zakzaky for gross disrespect of the rule of law and constituted authorities.
The Sheikh lamented the ‘ugly sighted’ fracas between members of the Islamic Movement and the Army, adding that disrespecting the constituted authorities, with impunity could only breed bad blood and lead to anarchy and chaos.
He said, “Our group has never been involved in any violent confrontation with constituted authorities or Security agencies. We are peaceful, law abiding and believe in peaceful co-existence, as well as the unity and sovereignty o the country.’’
