Newcastle Found Guilty Over Jonas Guiterrez Dismissal – Newcastle have been found guilty of the wrongful dismissal of Argentine footballer Jonas Guiterrez.
An employment tribunal had agreed with Guiterrez that he had been discriminated against because of his cancer diagnosis. The tribunal said that the club prevented him from becoming eligible for a contract extension.
Jonas Guiterrez was a regular for the Magpies before a testicular cancer diagnosis in 2013 relegated him to the sidelines, and is now set to receive 2 million pounds in compensation.
According to Guiterrez, the club viewed him as a liability despite him receiving a clean bill of health, and sued the club for the unfair treatment. He added that the club intentionally didn’t select him games so his contract extension clause would not be applicable.
