46 year-old curry chef Mahbub Chowdhury, admits to wiping his bum with his bare hands whenever he uses the bathroom when preparing meals for customers as his culture did not accept the use of toilet paper.
The chef’s dirty act comes to light following health inspectors visits to his restaurant, – Yeahya Flavour of Asia restaurant in Swindon, Wilts.
He still claims innocence by maintaining “he did not use toilet paper for ‘cultural reasons'”.
One of the discoveries which puts Mahbub into trouble include an empty bottle with feces all over it.
When the Inspectors challenge Chowdhury on the real use of the bottle, he informs them it’s used to ‘wash his bum with his hands following toilet trips’.
After every trip, he returns to preparing various curry delicacies for his customers.
At Swindon magistrates court, Mahbub pleads guilty to ‘ten allegations of breaching food and hygiene regulations’.
He is to be sentenced later when a verdict has been reached on a befitting sentence.
Prosecuting Rosie Heath said:
“Health officers visited his business on May 5 last year and found “very poor standards of hygiene”.
In the kitchen under the double sinks [they] found an empty plastic milk bottle which was extremely dirty and was covered with brown fingerprints.
When asked, Mr Chowdhury explained he filled the bottle with water from the kitchen taps and used it to clean his bottom after visiting the toilet.
He did not use toilet paper for cultural reasons. Inspectors concluded the brown finger prints was fecal matter.”
Defending his client, Mark Glendenning said “Mahbub no longer operates the business”.
He also asserts “the milk bottle was never assessed and the marks could have been spices”.
Last year, a takeaway website Just Eat saw The Yeahya Flavour of Asia restaurant, which was run from a kitchen in the Nine Elms pub, hold a 4.5/6 rating.
