A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos state has on Thursday granted a N2m bail to embattled ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who was sentenced to five years imprisonment for manslaughter.
The actress was granted the bail after initially being denied by a three man panel presided over by Justice Ndukwe-Anyanwu, following the death of one Dr Giwa Suraj who she allegedly killed in an auto accident along Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, 10 years ago.
Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur of the Appeal court said he was granting the actress bail pending the determination of an appeal filed by her at the Supreme court.
Justice Samuel Oseji, who read the lead judgment, granted the N2m bail Fiberesima with two sureties in like sum.
The court said the two sureties must be resident in Lagos and must each swear to an affidavit of means.
The court also stated that it exercised its discretion in the actress’s favour in view of her health condition.
The judge, who read out the judgement said: “It would amount to injustice if after Fiberesima had been kept in prison, the Supreme Court later, after about three to four years, decide that the five year jail term imposed on her should be set aside.”
