Arsene Wenger has admitted the importance for Gabriel Paulista to learn the English language quicker.
Gabriel has started just 10 EPL games this term and had just six appearances last season, since joining the club.
The defender was hugely criticised for his performance against United, but Wenger insists his knowledge of the English language is a major barrier.
“I would prefer him to have better English,” the Frenchman told reporters. “In a fraction of a second sometimes somebody can help you.
“He has Nacho Monreal who plays next to him, he can speak Spanish. I believe as well he’s working very hard on his English and he’s improving quite quickly.”
Gabriel was not the only player to be criticised for his performance at Old Trafford, but the manager maintains the team must take responsibility instead of individuals.
“It’s difficult for me to go into individual assessments of performances. We have to respond as a team and not criticise individually players for their performance,” he added.
“It was a difficult game for everybody and we want to respond collectively.”
