The movie, which is based on the Greek play Lysistrata and set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago, has been criticized by many of the city’s natives, including Chance.

During a screening of the movie and Q&A session with students of the Northwestern University, Lee was asked in particular about Chance’s criticism of the movie.

“Chance the Rapper’s a fraud,” Lee told the audience. “Straight-up fraud. He puts himself up as a speaker of the people, but that means you have to put truths that you see. That doesn’t mean you can pick and choose what you talk about.”

Chance took to Twitter to respond to the diss, calling Lee a “lame” and a “liar.”
