#RiversRerun: Anxiety As Amaechi, Wike Trade Harsh Words At Police Station

share on:

There are strong indications of a palpable tension among the citizens of Rivers state as the State Governor, Nyesom Wike and the Minster of Transportation, Mr Chibuike Amaechi clashed again on Sunday, at Mile 1 Police station over result for Ward 10 Saturday’s legislative rerun election in Port Harcourt City Local Government (PHALGA).

It was gathered that the 2 frontline political gladiators stormed the Police station with their supporters following the alleged arrest of the Ward 10 PHALG Collation officer, Mrs Ekwe Adebisa.

Trouble started on Saturday after the collation officer of ward 10, PHALGA, allegedly went missing with the result sheet.

While some reports alleged that she ran to the Police station for safety after she was being threatened and almost lynched by the already anxious mob, others claimed that she was arrested by the police and then taken to the station.

Shortly after her alleged apprehension, Amaechi showed up in company of Dakuku Peterside, director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Safety Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Davis Ikanya; Ibim Semenitari, acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and some APC officials.

Those who came with governor Wike were the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Austin Opara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chairman Local Government Service Commission, Mr Azubuike Emeregini, Senatorial candidate of the PDP for Rivers east, Chief George Sekibo and others.
Details of what transpired at the station remained sketchy; however, sources said the lady and the party leaders were later moved to the state CID office for interrogation.

Wike had directed all members of the PDP in the state to storm collation centres to monitor sorting and counting of votes cast.

Interestingly, for the first time in many years, Amaechi and Wike met ‘eye-to-eye’ at Mile One Police Division, Diobu, Port Harcourt.

It was also gathered that the two main political parties, PDP and APC kept vigil at collation centres all over the state.
