Real Madrid want Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, reports Marca.
Real have prioritised the addition of a top-class central defender this summer and they are considering raiding Atletico for Uruguay international Gimenez.
The 21-year-old has enjoyed rapid progress over the past few seasons and Atletico would be loath to lose him, especially to their city rivals. As such, Real would have to activate the defender’s €65m buyout clause to lure him away from the Vicente Calderon.
Real Madrid’s alternative to Gimenez, who is also being tracked by Barcelona, is PSG’s Brazil international defender Marquinhos.
In addition, Marca says that neither Real nor Barcelona are overly keen on recruiting Everton’s John Stones, with both clubs reportedly harbouring doubts over the ability of British footballers to adapt to football and life away from the UK.
