Pope Francis Washes And Kisses The Feet Of Refugees – Pope Francis marked Holy Thursday by washing and kissing the feet of Muslim, Christian and Hindu refugees.
The Pope’s actions were an act of welcome and brotherhood in response to the deadly attacks in Brussels days ago, which the pope described as a “gesture of war and destruction.”
“We have different cultures and religions, but we are brothers and we want to live in peace,” the Pontifex said. He then proceeded to wash their feet and kiss it, leaving many of the refugees in tears.
The tradition follow’s Jesus’ example of washing his disciples’ feet before his arrest, and the pope used the action to send a message of universal love.
“All of us, together: Muslims, Hindi, Catholics, Copts, Evangelicals. But brothers, children of the same God,” he said. “We want to live in peace, integrated.”
