Mr 2Kay’s Count It All Joy; The Review By Noble Igwe

Mr 2Kay's Count It All Joy

I’m one of those people that believe that Nigerian music is beyond “Lagos” and the Lagos hype and as such, I always pay attention to acts that started their music career outside of Lagos.

I can’t remember the first time I heard a record by Mr.2Kay but I knew he had something in him, so when I heard that he dropped an EP; I copped it and decided to share my verdict with you.

(1) In the Morning

Written by Abinye D Jumbo & Doray  | Produced by Ayzed | Mixed & Mastered by Brian

This track is a melodic love song talking about a woman he adores and loves to see her face first thing in the morning and for the rest of the day. I’d recommend this for lovers who are not used to the normal R&B songs and want something with a feel of reggae.

(2) Number 1

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced by Ayzed | Mixed & Mastered by Brian

This track feels like a continuation of “In the Morning” and it’s a heavy wedding tune. I loved it so much I had to write down the lyrics and I’d def recommend this for couples getting married.

(3) Count It All Joy

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced & Mastered by Orbit

It’s my second favorite song on the EP.  A feel good song for anyone with a reason to be thankful. On this track, Mr. 2Kay thanks God for how far He’s brought him.  Very smooth production.

(4) Ladder

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced by Teamsalut | Mixed & Mastered by Suka Sounds

“ No fall the ladder wey you take climb up, one day you go need am”

Ladder talks about the society and how people treat others when they’ve gotten all they need from them forgetting that they may need them sometime in the future. Ladder is a highlife tune with heavy guitar that reminds me about growing up in eastern Nigeria. I’d like to see a remix featuring Flavor, Illbliss or Phyno. When it happens, I want my 10%.

(5) Wombolobo

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced by Teamsalut | Mixed & Mastered by Suka Sounds

At this rate, I’m wondering if he’s still talking about same girl because it looks that way. With Wombolobo, Mr.2Kay went down the dancehall route and still brought excellence to the table of music. This track is a sure party song, not my favorite but as the rest, the production is “sound” and will definitely appeal to people in love with loud music.

(6) Woods

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced by Handsmill | Mixed & Mastered by Handsmill

“She needs more wood for her fire”

I love the message in this track and attribute the message to both men and women, as women are not the only one selling their bodies for money. Woods is a conscious track and a jam in one.

(7) Who No Like Better Thing

Written by Abinye D Jumbo | Produced By Ayzed n Handsmill | Mixed & Mastered by Handsmill

This is one of the tracks on the song that I never wanted to end. The production was smooth and balanced.  The message in the song and this track alone is reason enough to cop the EP.

(8) Moniegram ft Timaya

Written by Abinye D Jumbo & Timaya | Produced by Orbeat n Ayzed | Mixed & Mastered by Suka Sounds

This track is a report of two South–South boys who have made it in Lagos. In this track, Timaya and Mr.2Kay went on and on to tell us that they didn’t come to Lagos to watch Telemondo. It’s a feel good track and club banger.

(9) Bad Girl Special Remix Featuring Seyi Shay and Cynthia Morgan

Written by Abinye D Jumbo, Seyi Shay & Cynthia Morgan  | Produced by Ayzed | Mixed & Mastered by Suka Sounds

The original version of this song brought Mr. 2kay to our attention and he used this remix to prove that he’s here to stay. This is one of those songs that you can’t say that any artist outshined the other. Everyone featured on this track brought their A-game. Mr. 2Kay won me over with this and all the TV stations haven’t stopped playing the video.

I usually don’t have the time to listen and review EPs, albums or singles but after listening to Mr. 2Kay’s Count It All Joy EP, I decided not to keep it to myself.

Noble‘s Rating 8/10
