Speaking in an exclusive interview with Vanguard Newspaper, at his home in Kura local government in Kano, Mr. Bala said Yunusa’s relationship with Ese was illegal and against the norms of their religion.
The father of Yunusa said: “There was no marriage between my son and Ese Oruru because it is illegal.”
The 55-year-old man also said he reported the matter to the local authorities when his 25-year-old son informed him of his decision to elope with his lover.
He said: “I promptly reported the matter to the village head and on their arrival they were taken to his home who in turn reported to the District Head at Kura, headquarters of Kura local government area.”
Meanwhile, the parents of 14-year-old Miss Ese have reacted to rumours that their daughter is five-months pregnant, as they alleged that their underage daughter may have been raped by Yunusa.
Mr. Oruru, who expressed displeasure that his daughter had been forced to convert to Islam and into a child marriage without their consent, said:
“My daughter was raped by that man. I saw the sign when I first saw her last night. We are glad ‘stage one’ is over. I am happy she has been finally released and I have seen her, but I am sad. Now we will have to face whatever comes next.”
While the Orurus await the result of medical tests to confirm if the rumour of Ese’s pregnancy was true or not, Ese’s father said the family would hold a meeting in the next few days to take a collective decision on the matter.
